How To Clear The Failed Updates In Windows Vista Update Center?

Posted on 04:12 by Unknown

Every Windows Vista system keeps a record of the log of each event’s status and its outcome every time Windows performs an update attempt. In certain cases, the updates may fail to apply and if a number of them fail simultaneously, the Windows Updates history will be filled with dozens and hundreds of failed update notices. Windows Vista as of now does not have a particular tool for clearing just the failed updates. But it does give you the option of manually removing all the update notices to clear Windows Update history. Clearing the history log of all failed events will not in any way uninstall your updates.
How to clear the failed updates in the Windows Update Center for Windows Vista?
As mentioned above, even though Windows Vista does not have any specific feature to do this for you, you can do it on your own. It is not all that difficult a task and can be done in a matter of minutes. Here is how you can do the same as recommended by a Windows support team representative.
1. Select the Start button from the left end of the task bar on your desktop and in the Start menu’s search field, type cmd.exe.
2. From below the Programs banner, right click Cmd.exe and then select Run as administrator.
3. If prompted, provide a login name and password and then select OK.
4. In the Command Prompt, type net stop wuauserv and then press Enter.
5. When prompted to stop the service, click OK. Wait until the Command Prompt informs you that your service has been stopped.
6. In the Command Prompt window, type del %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore\Logs\edb.log and then press Enter. You have now successfully deleted your update history log.
These are the basics to be followed if you wish to clear the Windows Update history center of failed updates on your Windows Vista system. Go through the official Windows website to obtain answers to the best ways in which you can resolve a problem. Their database has excellent answers to numerous frequently asked questions. But if even that does not prove to be of much help and you require further assistance, simply dial the Windows support phone number to talk to a professional who can help you resolve your concerns.
